D.C. United re-sign forward Francis Doe
WASHINGTON, DC -- D.C. United announced Wednesday the club has
re-signed forward Francis Doe. The Liberian striker will return to
United on loan after scoring seven goals in 19 appearances in all
competitions. Per team and League policy, terms of the deal will not be
released. "Francis made a lot of progress during the second half of
the 2008 season and we're excited to have him back in 2009," said
United General Manager Dave Kasper. "We look forward to having him in
for a full pre-season of work, and we expect that he will compete for a
starting position this season."
Doe joined United on April 22, 2008 after a short trial, and by
the end of the season provided a consistent attacking threat off the
bench. He providing much needed depth on United's injury-depleted
roster, making 19 appearances (11 starts) and scoring seven goals in
all competitions. In League play, he tallied two goals in 12 matches
(four starts). His strong play towards the end of the 2008 campaign was accompanied by
a couple of call-ups to the Liberia National Team for 2010 World Cup
qualifiers. In total he has represented his home country eight times,
including qualifying for the 2006 World Cup and the 2008 African Cup of
Nations, where he netted two goals in the latter competition.
Catch Doe in action by purchasing tickets to the home opener on
March 28 at RFK Stadium. Tickets are also currently available as part
